Rock Climbing Training

dylan 7 February, 2020

Another activity which is much enjoyed by many rock climbers is training. For many, this is their first real exposure to the sport.

Setting Up a Training Regime

Many rock climbers will develop a training programme for themselves, much like the athletes who are using gym services to get themselves fit. They develop a rigid programme and work through the process.

Training Techniques

There is a lot to train for in this sport. There is training for endurance and stamina. Then, there is training for the development of techniques and skills. Both can be worked through at the same time for a change of pace. Or a rock climber may decide they are going to work on one area at a time.

Fitness Aspects

Every athlete has certain components of their body which they have to work on, based on the sport they are active in. In almost all sports it is going to entail endurance.

  • Endurance: The same applies to the rock climber when one of the first goals will be to remain on the walls for a more extended period.
  • Finger Gripping: Climbers need to condition their hands but with the emphasis being put on finger gripping.
  • Power: Being able to stay on the wall, combined with being able to manoeuvre quickly, takes a combination of physical and skills training.

Discipline

Part of the training regime is going to be for the climber to learn how to discipline themselves. This will take place through the training sections but also by other methods aside from this. They need to discipline themselves in regards to their diet. Schedules have to be created for fitness training, and the climber has to be able to stick with these.

A Trainer

There are a lot of climbers who like to do their training; then for others, they work much better if they have someone coaching them. For those who are competing for this is common. It may depend on the goals of the climber in regards as to how far they want to take this activity. If it is mostly as a hobby, then they may be more content to just work at their own pace.

Rock climbing is a rewarding sport which allows for as much involvement as the participant wants.
